About 700km and four hours of off road adventure brought me to the highlands of Iceland. These mountains show the process of time on the surface. Eroded by volcanic activity, flowing lava fields and glaciers, over hundreds of thousands of years, the mountains of Landmannalagaur are an extraordinary geological feat. Their subtle tonalities are what drew me to make a photograph. Areas of intensity shift back and forth across the face of the mountains draw your eye through the picture. The lingering snow atop the peak provides a nice point of contrast with the moody sky, while two hikers in the foreground show the scale of these peaks.
